Jack W. Kuhns

June 14, 1926 - December 22, 2020

Jack Kuhns died December 22nd, 2020 in Lakeland, Florida. He was born on June 14, 1926, in White Township, Indiana County, Indiana, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Harry L. Kuhns, Sr. and Ada Viola Wadding Kuhns. As a Professor of Education, he received his education in Elementary and Secondary Public Schools of Indiana, Pennsylvania, a BS in Education from Indiana University, an MED from the University of Pittsburgh and 60 hours of postgraduate studies there. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Rachel Louise Kuhns, two sons, Douglass Kuhns and David Kuhns, three brothers, and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Donna Kuhns, step-daughter Sherry (Walter) Frasher, one daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, eight step-great grandchildren, two step-great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. During World War II, Jack served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater of Operations on Guadalcanal, Guam, Okinawa, and Tsingtao, China, where he participated in the repatriation of Japanese citizens from that city back to Japan. A retired Professor of Education, he taught at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from 1952 to 1985. Previously he served as an elementary education teacher in Indiana, and Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania schools. He was Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor for Boy Scout Troop 29, Indiana, Pennsylvania, where he received scouting's honorary camping recognition, the Order of the Arrow and Award of Merit. Jack was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland, Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Free and Accepted Mason, Indiana=Franklin Lodge 313, Indiana Pennsylvania, Valley of Coudersport ASSR Coudersport, Pennsylvania, Association of Pennsylvania State College Faculties, Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees, State Systems of Higher Education of Pennsylvania, State Employees System of Pennsylvania, and Elks Lodge No. 1291, Lakeland, Florida.
