Gladys Purcell

February 22, 1937 - February 7, 2022

Gladys Purcell was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She passed away peacefully on February 7th, 2022. Gladys was born in Pierce, FL on February 22, 1937. She graduated Valedictorian of her class from Mulberry High School and went on to graduate from St Vincent’s Nursing school to become a Registered Nurse. In 1958, she married Jackie Purcell, who loved and cherished her for 60 years of marriage. They went on to have three children Cindy, John, and Kenneth, and always prioritized the importance of family. She was a caring nurse for over 30 years at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Once retired, she spent many years being a loving “GG” to her 5 grandchildren. Gladys was known for her amazing cooking, as she could put together delicious homestyle meals that all of her family and friends could enjoy. Some could try to recreate the recipes, but it never tasted quite like “GG’s”. Gladys enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Jackie, to watch the Florida Gators play, enjoy sunsets at the beach, and spend time with friends. Gladys was survived by her daughter, Cindy Johnson, and her husband Mike; son, John Purcell, and his wife Eva; son, Ken Purcell, and his wife Melody; grandsons, Jason Purcell, Ryan Chandler, and Carter Purcell; granddaughters, Melanie Murphy, and Sarah Purcell, and 4 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. The family will be holding a private ceremony at Florida National Cemetery to be laid to rest with her late, loving husband.
