FRANKLIN, Betty Jane 76 of Clermont passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, in Orlando. Jane was born in Louisville, GA to Rev. G. P. & Sara Williams Sloan, descendants of the Sloan family of Sloan's Ridge, Lake County. She attended Groveland High School then graduated from Biloxi High School in 1965 following her father's U.S. Army transfer to Mississippi.
Jane married Richard L. Franklin, Sr. in 1966. They had three children, Richard L. Franklin, Jr., Christopher E. Franklin, and Gregory Sloan Franklin. Jane and Richard loved and enjoyed co-parenting their three sons.
In 1985, Jane returned to Lake County and worked at Clermont High School and South Lake High School. She later became a real estate agent and enjoyed a 24-year career with Micki Blackburn Realty alongside her beloved sister, Dale Odom. Never meeting a stranger, Jane became a well-respected agent and enjoyed assisting many families as they sought their dream of becoming a homeowner.
For the last 31 years of her life, she shared a selfless relationship with her loving companion, Robert "Bob" Griffin. Her favorite part of the week started with attending the Sunday morning service at The Church at South Lake followed by lunch with family and friends.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, son Gregory Sloan Franklin, and Brother G. Perry Sloan. She is survived by her long-term companion Robert "Bob" Griffin, her 2 sons, Richard L. Franklin, Jr (Kelly) and Christopher E. Franklin (Brian) and their father, Richard L. Franklin, Sr. (Karen), Grandchildren S. Ashlee Franklin, Miles R. Franklin, and Saint Franklin, Sister Dale Odom, Sister-In-Law Sandee Sloan, Nephew Charles Sloan (Anna), Great Niece Bella Sloan and Great Nephew Alex Sloan.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug 30, 2024 from 10:00 am until service time at 11:00 am at The Church at South Lake, 1860 Hancock Rd, Clermont, Florida 34711. A reception will immediately follow the service. Donations may be made to the Empire Church Cemetery Association, 13935 Chatham Rd., Groveland, FL 34736.
